Career Planning in today’s Competitive Era

If you are able to analyze and understand the importance of different stages of Career Planning, you will choose the right career for yourself, says SAAD HAMEED

Today’s youth plan their Career in a very hasty way & as a result take impulsive career decisions. In order to excel in today’s scenario, it is necessary to have the amalgamation of “Interests plus abilities”.
Youngsters of the present day world are very fortunate to be born in an era, where, good careers are available as per their interests, abilities & the personality as a whole, both at undergraduate and post graduate level.
The competition today is very tough and the career planning needs to be perfect. Dreams are to be converted into Aims, in order to achieve success in due time. As they say “Dreaming without strategy is a waste of time”, one must identify a dream, but the dream has to be realistic and time bound, because it is the aim which is achieved, not the dream.  In order to identify your aim & strategy to accomplish it, you need to undergo a process, which is called “Career Planning”. The procedure of career planning that the student should follow can be as mentioned below:

The first stage of career planning is Self – Realization  i.e. identifying your interest, your abilities, your strengths & weaknesses, and then conducting a SWOT analysis i.e. matching your Strengths & Weaknesses, with the identified career options, that matches your personal profile. Once you identify your career options (at least three) the next stage is to make necessary queries about how you can achieve your desired target or aim. Prepare yourself for the desired target; try to learn all the necessary traits and knowledge required. Develop a tendency of Learning and be always ready for improvement.

Next comes Honesty, which says, that whatever efforts you do, they  should be done with full honesty and commitment. Honesty is the foundation stone of one’s character, so if you are honest to yourself, then only you will be honest towards your goal.
The next important aspect is Time Management. As you know, God has made us different in every aspect, but he has made one thing common for all of us, and that is TIME. So you have to make the best use of available time i.e. 24 Hours and that is the success Mantra of almost all the great people, ranging from Nelson Mandela to Bill Gates. I would also like to suggest, that to keep your pace going, you need to love your goal like a small baby and have to nurture it with full interest & devotion, and have to be focused throughout. Most people, who fail in life, don’t fail because they lack in talent or abilities, but because they fail to concentrate & focus their energies in one single direction. Make your mission statement & put it at a prime location in your room, read it daily and motivate yourself to plan and work accordingly (be accountable to yourself)
As, I mentioned earlier, lots of ups & downs do come during the entire process of career success, there are some ways through which you can handle the related stress and study pressures:

•         Be Grateful of What You Have (cherish you past success & what do u have at present)
•         Share your stress or problems with an elder, friend or counselor.
•         Avoid the company of Negative people.
In the end, would like to mention, that, despite all the efforts, be patient, as God will deliver you, when the time is ripe, and he will only dispose your proposal, if it is at all better for you, because He is the Best Planner. I would like to quote a saying by Theodre Roosevelt, who said “Sometimes an Opportunity comes under the disguise of a Failure”.  So don’t worry about small failures, keep on working hard, and take the failures as experiences, learn from them, I am sure it will take you to success. So man can only propose, God will dispose, but, the PROPOSAL HAS TO BE PERFECT.

Significance of Moral Education In Business

In order to win customer’s loyalty and faith, moral character of the businessmen matters the most, writes the MBA student, SAIF MUKHTAR

One of the most important elements of a prosperous business is the moral character of the businessmen, for it creates a milieu where customers have faith in the company and its products/services. This faith ultimately leads to flourishing business. If we talk about
Business, per se, its basic aim is to earn profit in terms of money, which satisfies the lowest level needs of human beings (Security, physiological needs) according to Abraham Maslow, a well known management thinker.

According to Maslow, and almost all the theorists in HR, when a person’s lower level needs like physiological and security needs are satisfied the person moves up in need hierarchy and craves for higher level needs like esteem and self-actualization .

This has been quite visible in the activities of business moguls like Vijay Path Singhaniya, Richard Branson who have attempted and achieved a number of records in the dome of aeronautics. There are businessmen like Bill Gates and our own Azim Premji whose donations towards health and education of the needy are well known to the world. How can one forget Tata group of companies who have made winning customer loyalty and general welfare as their main objective.

Pursuing this objective they left Singur( West Bengal) despite spending millions of rupees for developing infrastructure there. But in some cases, which are not rare now, Maslow and other theorists become meaningless when people like Ramlinga Raju(Satyam founder), Kenneth Lay (founder of Enron) are not able to move up from the lowest level and pilfer shareholder’s money in an attempt to satisfy their insatiable lust for money. The history of business is full of examples of  such cash mongers. These incidents have compelled us to ponder on the force behind such a behavior and every time the answer is lack of moral education. The answer lies in understanding a simple analogy.

An ambitious, competitive, and efficient businessman would be most satisfied when his firm(s) exploit new horizons of success but this would happen only when the businessmen are aware of  different tastes and they are not restricted to earning money as the only flavour of success. This needs proper ethical/moral education right from primary level instead of teaching it only at the graduation level, when a person’s moral character has already become rigid. Such an education would help protect great entrepreneurs from being seduced by the evil of blind greed and would help them in growing their business and serving shareholder’s interest.

Warmth of Love (Poem)

A girl named as Sprouse, was sitting on the roof of her house.
I was wandering alone when I caught a glimpse of her.
I remember she was wearing original fox fur!
I notice on her face, a bliss of solitude…
And I thought, to that girl; “the world was pretty rude!”
The tears from her eyes came rolling down the street
I thought that I should arrange with the girl for a meet.
There was a pet the squirrel, which every time squeaked,
As the crystal clear tears rolled down the girl’s fluffy cheeks!
She was sweet to me; but to her the surroundings were rude.
As everything I saw her I could notice the bliss of solitude.
So in curiosity, I went upto her and said;
“Tell me for heaven’s sake, are you hungry of buck, love, bread or a cake?”
I asked her name; she said it was Sprouse.
I asked her the reason for sitting alone on the top of her house.
She stood up in respect and her pet the squirrel to her stuck.
She told me frankly that she is neither hungry of bread nor of buck!
She told me it was love that was all she wanted.
With these words from her slender lips, I was enchanted.
She came to me running and I gave her a hug.
She asked me if I could give her the
Warmth of love!
Then the squirrel with delight started rubbing its feet
Then sprouse and I with hand in hand went strolling down the street.
Love is the only emotion that is past all caste and creed.
Humanity is the flower that blossoms when love is the sown seed.

I Dreamt of a World

I dreamt a day with sunshine so bright
Would shine my world, than a billion lights.

I dreamt a night, moon with a smile
The twinkling stars, guided me miles

I dreamt a wind, blew so sweet
Filled with fragrance, protected me from heat

I dreamt a dune, with ripples so rippled
Seemed a sight like, sea lil crippled

I dreamt a mountain, touched the sky
It reached above clouds, made me delighted.

I dreamt animals, roaming so free.
The way nature created ‘em,  a sight to see everyday.

I dreamt plants, in which flowers bloomed.
Beauty of theirs, so smile to gloom.

I dreamt nature, natural than self
The heavens wondered, why detached it from self.

I dreamt a world, in peace and serenity
Creators of war uttered, have done what to yee.

I dreamt a world, dreams came true.
                             Everybeing chanted “creators, Thank You”!

I dreamt a dream, so dreamy, so great.
But when up I got, Life said-
                                                                         “YOU ARE TOO LATE”.
